The Super Excellent City
The Super Excellent City (SEC) stands as an ambitious response to the frustration with petrochemical urbanism.
By creating a fully walkable urban environment with all vehicular and train access restricted to subterranean levels, SEC offers a sustainable, human-centered alternative to the car-dominated cities of today.
SEC 001 represents the first prototype in this vision—a compact, 1-km-wide circular city that combines dense urban functionality with breathable, open spaces. Designed for self-sufficiency and autonomy, the city integrates green spaces, sustainable water sources, and renewable energy, making it a resilient ecosystem for future living.
Establishing SEC 001 in the challenging, arid Karoo landscape brings an element of challenging technological and environmental innovation. Constructing in the Karoo would mean adapting to scarce water resources, intense heat, and isolation—factors that push the boundaries of sustainable design and energy management. In the process, SEC could serve as a model for future autonomous cities in remote or arid regions, showcasing how urban life can be sustainable, walkable, and beautifully integrated with the surrounding environment.
This vision isn't just about building another city; it's a blueprint for rethinking how we live, work, and interact with the land—transforming our approach to urbanism in a world constrained by climate and resources.
